이종교배 ( Hybrid )

 

 난지스튜디오의 입주 작가 이서준과 이승현은 각각 몬스터와 미확인동물을 대상으로 연구하며 작업을 하고 있다. 이서준은 몬스터를 감금한다는 설정을 통해 그가 만든 괴물 감금장치를 본 관객들의 머릿속에 변이된 이미지를 파생시키도록 자극하는 반면, 이승현은 미확인동물을 증식시키며 생명의 속성에 대해 탐구하고 이를 기반으로 고정된 인식에 대한 교란을 시도한다.
 
 이번 전시에서 이들은 상대방의 기존 작업물을 자신의 방식대로 해석하여 새로운 작업을 하였으며  이러한 결과물을 제 1 갤러리에서 보여준다. 2 갤러리에서는 전시기간 동안 ‘Dropper 장치’를 통해 만들어진 임의적이고 우연한 주묵의 흔적을 시작으로 약 7-8일 간의 프로젝트를 수행하였다. 이승현은 이러한 임의적인 얼룩의 궤적에서 본인의 ‘미확인 동물’을 발견하였고 이서준은 미확인 동물의 구체적인 모습을 근거로 괴물 감금장치를 설계하였다.

 

 두 작가는 유사한 대상에 관심을 갖고 있으면서 서로 다른 방향의 작업을 진행하고 있다. 이번 전시는 두 작가가 각자의 세계를 드러내어 교차지점을 확인하고 프로젝트를 통해 두 작업의 교배를 시도하였다.

Hybridization 2009
● Two artists have shared with a similar subject and developed their unique approach in work. Through the project, two artists reveal their own individual work, confirm mutual points and attempt to hybridise between two different works
● The artists interpret the opponent work in their own way and conduct a project of a relay work method for 8days.
● Sejune Lee presented an arbitrary and at the same time accidental black trace by a dropper device created by himself and Seounghyun Lee found his own unidentified living things from Sejune’s arbitrary spots of traces.
● Followed by the process, Sejune Lee created a 3D monster lock-up device based on concrete appearances of unidentified life.
